Complex Bodies and Distributed Choreographies

Recent advances in digital fabrication and computationally controlled environments have produced new forms of architecture that exhibit dynamic kinetic behaviours in physical space and time. We are exploring a choreographic approach to designing the interactions and behaviours of kinetic architectures, in which patterns, compositions and qualities of movement are defined across heterogeneous elements of bodies, kinetic materials, spatial structures, and software code. We apply a research-through-design approach and produce prototype and finished systems for research and exhibition.

Exhibited works:
  • Interrupted installation, Dissentience exhibition, Tin Sheds Gallery, ISEA 2013
  • Gold (Monstrous Topographies) installation for The Spence Room, I Love Todd Sampson performance, The Living Room Theatre Company, March 2013
  • Black Shroud installation, Organised Cacophony, Rocks Pop-up, November 2012
  • Black Spring installation, Digital Interdisciplinations exhibition, Tin Sheds Gallery, August 2012

In collaboration with architect Dr Dagmar Reinhardt.
Supported by funding from the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Planning and assistance from the Digital Modelling and Fabrication Lab, University of Sydney.
