Frigid Fantasies | The Moult Cycle

2019 Volcana Brainstorm, Koganecho Bazaar, Yokohama, Japan
The moult cycle goes into recursive overdrive, as the desire to attract a mate turns in on itself in a circular world. The moult has become a proxy for breeding, as the shedding of skins creates the illusion of population growth.

Over-extended prosthetics make movement difficult, to the point of immobilisation. Harking back to the exaggerated, dysfunctional, helplessness-inducing costuming of royalty. Fit for a Queen Shrimp.

Ebi Metamorph

2020 Volcana Brainstorm, Yokohama Triennale, Japan
The moult cycle of the shrimp is bound up in its environment. That which is shed in the creature’s exuviation becomes building blocks for growing new ideas and bodies. A con/fusion of flesh, rope, volcanic ash and shell.
